Doctor Who Episode 3 The Curse of the Black Spot Review

This was pure fun. It was classic Doctor Who. It's a stand alone episode with only a slight tie to the previous episodes, which I love.

The Doctor and his companions are back to tracking distress calls and this one leads them to a pirate ship, or so it seems, where a strange 'Siren' like lady appears out of any mirrored surface, confuses and then atomizes anyone who is sick or wounded. Even if it's just a scratch.

BUT we discover in true Doctor Who fashion, that it's not a Siren or a Curse. NO! It's a holographic doctor from an alien ship that is dead and parked in a parallel universe just next to the pirate ship! OF COURSE!

The best part of being a Doctor Who fan is knowing that we will get from a point A, such as this:

To the point B such as this:

It is brilliant how they come up with these things. Two little tiny issues with the episode. One was that when Amy, the Captain, and the Doctor all came across to the space ship they transported to a random room. Shouldn't they have been tabled as well? It's easily explained away. They didn't have enough of the song anesthesia to keep them under long enough for the holo-doc to get them to the table room. Fine. Other issues is that when the alien race of Squirrel Babies (LOST reference)...

...got sick, why weren't they put into stasis by the holo-doc? Nit-picky, I know.

Regardless of those two tiny issues, I loved the episode. We did have a tiny nod to the issues still at hand. One being the doctor's impending death and the other being the indeterminate status of Amy's pregnancy.

Before I leave you, I want to mention one small thing. If you came to Doctor Who with Eccelson, Tennant or Smith then what you may not get is that the Doctor tends to pick lady companions and he doesn't get involved in relationship with them. It's been a pretty standard practice to deal with the adventure at hand rather than anything mushy beyond that. This wasn't brought to the story line until the aforementioned three came in the reboot of the series. I know we had the business with Rose and I know we have more River Song shipping to come in future episodes, but lets all remember who the Doctor loves above all else.
