Doctor Who Episode 2 Day of the Moon Review

Watch your step. Yes, that's my brain on the floor. My mind has totally blown.
I've tied up Tom Wilson, somewhere in the UK so that I could take over writing the Doctor Who reviews. So you'll be getting this from the American point of view. Let me reassure you that I am highly qualified to review Doctor Who as I have been watching it since I was 6 years old. Back before the days of the internet my father would go to local episode swaps to trade episodes with local fans to create his library of episodes.

This is one of his indexes

When I was young I would take these sheets and find my favorite doctor and my favorite companion and watch whatever episode I desired. In addition to having seen EVERY episode (and yes, I know that means SURVIVING episode) I've also been to a few Doctor Who conventions and met Colin Baker. Also, THIS.

Now THAT's embarrassing, and it's homemade by my nerdy parents when I was 7 or 8. Respect.

NOW QUIT STALLING AND GET TO THE REVIEW!

Day of the Moon

I stand with Tom. Regardless of the episode or it's predecessor, the Doctor Who franchise will not end with Matt Smith. That's just logic. But I'll get in to that more at the end.

What I really love about this episode compared to it's first half is the hand implants and face ticks. They took the forgetfulness that the creatures inspire and they made it apply to the audience. When the lights start blinking or the ticks start appearing, it's not only the characters, but it's the audience who doesn't remember.

I thought the scene in the orphanage was especially creepy and this set of aliens is the scariest by far. I judge that on a scale of can-my-kids-even-walk-into-the-room. The answer for this episode was a resounding no, and I had to watch even where it was paused.

And I really think the final end sequence where the Doctor outsmarts the bunch by using the most rewatched video clipping history to use their weapon of post-hypnotic suggestion to turn the human race against themselves.

Everything was all nice and wrapped up with our nemesis aliens, The Silents or was it? All of the questions of the first episode were all nice and answered. No, not at all. Will it all get sorted out next episode? Absolutely not. So what are we to watch out for the rest of this season? Get comfy, cause this is a long list.
  • Who/How/What/Why/WTF does the Doctor die on the beach?
  • If the Silents have been taken care of then what about the one that Amy saw present day on the beach?
  • Cyclops. This is not the last we will see of this, I'm certain.

  • The obvious questions regarding how Amy and the girl are related and why Amy is in a state of undecided pregnancy on the TARDIS.
  • River Song's response to "There's a first time for everything," was "And a last time." That seems to imply she thinks her end is soon, though we know her final episode before the library adventure will require him giving her a Sonic Screwdriver.
  • And finally, the girl is not just any girl. She's a regenerating wonder kid (you thought I forgot).

Stay tuned for a list of River Song's diary land marks. I plan on going through her episodes and checking them out.

I'm looking forward to seeing you next time. Can I possible wait until Saturday for another episode? I love this show.
